,BHOPAL : The state government, sick of controversies plaguing the housing cooperative societies, might decide to dissolve at least 1000, if not more, of them. There are more than 5000 housing cooperative societies which are caught up in various kinds of controversies. There are complaints that these societies did not allot plots to their members and instead sold the land to builders.
The Cooperatives department has formed a cell for registering complaints against such societies and complaints are being received on an almost daily basis. There are several societies which simply don’t have land to allot plots to their members and this has made disposal of complaints against them impossible.
According to sources, government is drawing up list of such societies in which there is no scope for resolving the problems. The cooperatives Department is going to send a proposal to the government to dissolve such societies.
Around 400 cooperatives societies in Bhopal and Indore have no land and their office-bearers have also changed. The resolution of disputes in such societies is simply not possible.
The state government, in the recent past, had recommended dissolution of the controversial ‘Rohit Griha Nirman Sahkari Samiti’. The government plans to sell the land owned by the society and distribute the proceeds among its primary members.
A senior official said preparations are on to dispose of all cases related to societies, except those which are pending in courts.
A solution would be worked out after co-operatives elections to end the disputes. The members of societies, who did not get plots even after depositing money, would be given back their money with interest.
